We were overwhelmed last year by the requests received about a spouse accompanying the author to SWAT Academy. I guess for Liliana and me, going to events and conferences was a natural since we were usually both presenting classes.
It was incredible to see the couples who attended. Promoting the writer’s business as a true family affair helps the spouse better understand the level of commitment it takes to crank out novels like a rockstar.
Some of our female cadets were even concerned that the men would be bored. Well, I can tell you that wasn’t the case. We think they enjoyed the driving, shooting and hands-on police work as much if not more than the writers.
The partner’s connection to a peer group of other spouses who support their writer was also important. It’s a fascinating and unique bubble we operate within. We’ve discovered the importance of reaching out to others in the writing world who have a partner that’s maybe seeking where they belong in the process.
SWAT Academy certainly provides a friendly environment that’s open to building peer relationships between writers and their supporting partners.
Liliana and I laugh at the thought of what was first envisioned as a rough and tumble action-hero training experience, has also become a couple’s retreat.
We look forward to seeing you and your partner this October 19-22 at our suspense writers adventure training academy. You’ll have a wonderful time working through the field challenges with your partner, and the fellowship between cadets during meals and networking times.
Don’t wait, space is limited – Grab their hand and sign up today.
